It takes 6 hours by plane from LA to new york.
It takes 1 day and 17 hours by car.

Time wise plane wins.

Planes use 5 gallons of fuel per mile
A car uses 1 gallon for every 15 - 30 miles

So a car win for fuel

Planes hold up to 250 people.
cars hold up to 8 people.

Plane wins for storage.
